WS-FTP
WS-FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a method of transfering files from your computer to our server and vice-versa. To use FTP, you need an FTP client. Most operating systems (windows, linux, macintosh) ship with a simple FTP client but it is usually a text mode client that is a bit cryptic to use. A very popular FTP client is WS-FTP. It is very easy to setup and use. To setup WS-FTP, download the file from the link above and install the file. This will create a program group called WS_FTP in your start menu. Go to your start menu, select Programs > WS-FTP > WS-FTP-LE and the program will start. You will notice when it starts it begins by opening a screen labeled Session Properties. You need to create a new profile for your FTP account. You can click on the New button and enter the following information:

  • Profile Name: neXband
  • Host Name/Address: ftp.nexband.com
  • Host Type:Automatic detect
  • User ID: your username
  • Password: your password
Make sure the Anonymous box is not checked and the "Save Pwd" is checked. Then click on Apply, then click on Ok to connect.

Once connected you will have two windows, the window on the left is your computer, the window on the right is the ftp server you are connected to. To transfer files back and forth, click on the file you want to move and then click the arrow button corresponding to the direction you want to move the file between the two windows. You can create new directories, rename files, delete files, delete directories and change file permissions (exec) with this client. Other FTP clients would work in a similar manner to this one.
